This is the original lo-fi recording of "Hate Brought Me Love," which I presented after being (unexpectedly) rejected by the person it was written for. That said, it did make them cry, so...mission accomplished? Writing songs for girls is something I've done a few too many times, but such is the life of someone obsessed with music, correcting familial patterns, and creating a loving relationship. Unfortunately, that's a bit counterintuitive. Regardless, the brief encounter was critical to rebounding from past mistakes and reintegrating into reality from the dark hole I had placed myself in. Sometimes we find self-worth in the hearts of others, which can be surprising to find in the heart of someone without any. Even if they lied to you (and many others) when they said you were, "Perfect."
Recorded on both an Asus laptop and a Galaxy Note 9 with a Yamaha PSR-2. Can't remember whether or not I plugged the keyboard into my Sunn SL260.
lyrics
So if her hate brought me love
Then thank God above
The one that doesn't exist
No, He don't, but I wished
That He did as a kid
When He started the car
Then He left through my chest
An exit wound that won't scar
So if her hate brought me love
I won't return like the dove
Ever so faithful to the ark
Noah can live with that mark
Cuz I've seen how the scorn
Live endlessly torn
Is there some way, shape, or form
Where we all get reborn
Without the Lord?
So there's hurt and there's doubt
Both inbox and out
As we shout with our mouths
Full of champagne and stout
That we'd like this to end
Shake hands and be friends
But the past makes us tend
To resent more than mend
So if her hate just won't fade
And our fates have been made
I'd rather lie in this grave
With someone who can stave
Off this thought in my head
That we're already dead
And though it fills me with dread
It just has to be said
I need you now, Corinne
I need you now
